When you’re craving simpler times and brighter days, a road trip might be just what you need. Whether cruising down historic Route 66 in a fun convertible or loading up the family for adventure in the Grand Tetons, there’s so much of the United States that is best explored on four wheels and the open road.

While it’s possible to get in your car one day and see how far the road takes you, why not enjoy an expertly planned experience? Road trips are the perfect customizable vacations. Itineraries for avid hikers, nature lovers, amateur historians, or those simply looking to make lasting family memories can be found throughout the U.S.A.

Westward is always a good choice for those looking for a bit of adventure. The ever-changing landscape as you head out west will leave you in awe of our great nation. You’ll find rolling hills, wide open plains (with the biggest windmills you’ve ever seen!), expansive deserts, red rocks, jaw dropping mountains, and beautiful beaches if you go far enough.

You can head out and see the unmatched beauty of Yellowstone National Park or the Grand Tetons or take a grand tour of New England to brighten your days with the glorious colors of fall. While meandering along the open roads you can pick up a new favorite fruit at a roadside stand, try the Christmas sauce in Albuquerque, or snap a photo with Paul Bunyan’s Fry Pan in Montana.

A trip to Arizona offers adventure and relaxation! Explore the unmatched beauty of Sedona, AZ by hiking any of the more than 200 trails that cover over 400 miles, or find your adventure in the seat of a famous Pink Jeep. Jeep tours offer the best off-road adventures to see red-rock landscapes at almost every turn. You’ll also find unique shopping at Tlaquepaque Arts and Shopping Village or relax in one of the many spas around Sedona. Check one of the seven wonders of the world off your list! Take a scenic trip to the Grand Canyon a mere three hours away. While looking at the wonders of the Grand Canyon, you may also see a Mule Deer – the most commonly seen large animal in the Park. You could head to Las Vegas, Nevada or Arches National Park in Utah to finish off your grand adventure.

The wide open spaces of Texas are another excellent place for a road trip. For those who are into home renovations and DIY shows, a trip to Waco, TX is the perfect excuse to explore this vast state. On your way to Waco, make a stop in Houston. Space Center Houston is the official visitors center of NASA Johnson Space Center. Spend some time learning about space exploration by taking the NASA Tram Tour where you’ll tour Astronaut Training Facilities, Mission Control, and more. After you check out the last frontier, head to San Antonio where you can explore Spanish Missions and the Alamo. Enjoy dinner on the famed River Walk before setting out for Waco. Remember to ensure you have extra space in the car or your luggage for all the treasures you may find at Magnolia!

You might choose to fly to a central starting point and pick up a rental car due to time constraints, but you can start the drive from home if you have enough unused vacation days.
